Educating Rita by Willy Russell
Directed by Max Davis
Performances dates: 21st to 25th April 2026
Educating Rita follows Rita, a funny, fearless, wonderfully unpredictable hairdresser determined to change her life through education, and Frank, the disillusioned, alcoholic academic assigned to tutor her. As they clash, inspire and challenge each other, both are transformed. For actors, it’s a two-hander full of brilliant lines, complex characters and a lively journey from insecurity to self-belief.
NOTE: Actors of any age can audition for these roles. Rita can be anywhere from early 20s into her 70s. Frank can be mid 30s with no upper age. The most important thing for me is to find the very best actors for the role and then we will build the vision of the production around them.
CAST (2 actors)
RITA (f) – A working class hairdresser. Any Age 20’s and up.
FRANK (m) – A university English tutor. Any Age 30s and up
I prefer to see people individually at audition, so if you are planning to attend please email me at educatingrita@qmt.org.uk and you can reserve a time slot. Please also get in touch if you want to discuss which roles to audition for and I can suggest audition pieces.
Scripts are now available at the theatre. If you borrow one, please return it within a week so others can read it. Thank you.
Audition pieces can found here:
Please note that auditions on 26th Jan will be in the Youth Wing and auditions on 29th Jan will be in the Main House
